Warming Trend: Fall/Winter Hair Color
Honey wheat blondes, coppery reds, and rich chocolate brunettes to dye for
Confession: I haven’t colored my hair in over a decade. It’s been at least twelve years. Shocking, right? (Especially, for someone in my line of work.) Here’s the thing: I generally like my natural hue. And whenever I did dye it, I’d go for a richer and deeper version of my chestnut shade—not a drastic change. (Rita Hazan once gave me a dark, espresso brown that I still think about.) Yet, for someone who doesn’t color, I’m rather obsessed with it. If you follow me on Instagram (find me hereI), you may have seen me share local colorists’ work in my stories. I drool daily over multi-tonal blondes, deep brunettes with caramel balayage, and rich, copper reds all done by Long Island colorists. I’m starting to see some gray strands in my hair (which I affectionately call my sparkle for now), so I’ll be ready to experiment with color soon. And it’s going to be really hard to pick which super-talented Long Island pro to book. There are a lot to choose from. For now, I’ll continue to obsess over the most gorgeous fall/winter shades Long Island colorists are serving up at the moment—and provide you with some major inspo. What can we expect this season? As the weather gets cooler, hair color is getting warmer. Check out these on-trend shades for blondes, brunettes, and redheads below. The salons and colorists who created these looks are credited on the Instagram photos. Go follow them, stat!
Honey wheat blondes
Honey blonde is a warm shade (and it’s gorgeous on its own), but this trend includes some neutral, creamy tones mixed in (hence, the wheat part). And the combo is absolutely stunning. It’s not too warm, not too cool. It has that effortless, lived-in look (read: blended), yet looks like an expensive blonde at the same time. Rich, dark browns
Shades of chocolate, espresso, and mocha are standouts this season. To keep these dark shades from falling flat, tones of caramel and bronze are painted throughout the hair—adding warmth, dimension, and a whole lot of interest. Coppery reds
This seasons reds come in a stunning range of copper from light, almost peachy hues to shimmering bronze tones to more rich, high-shine, deep, penny reds. Your colorist will factor in your skin tone and undertone to determine which of these eye-catching reds is right for you. Click for my favorite coppers on LI right now.
