Growing up with a hairdresser mother, Krista Bennett DeMaio has roots in the beauty industry. She was always experimenting with the latest hair trends, from spiral perms in the 80s to the “Rachel” cut in the 90s. At an early age, Krista dreamed of being a writer, so a career in beauty editorial seemed like the perfect fit. A beauty internship at YM magazine (while attending Fordham University in New York City) confirmed it.
During most of her magazine career, Krista served as the beauty editor at Redbook magazine, where she wrote and edited several stories a month, produced photo shoots with top hair and makeup pros, cultivated relationships with beauty PR and brand executives, and appeared in television news segments for outlets including CBS News and WPIX11. She’s also had editorial stints at Seventeen, Shape, and OK!.
As a freelance writer, Krista’s work has appeared in national publications and websites, including Women’s Health, Oprah, Cosmopolitan, Parents, Allure, InStyle, HealthCentral.com, Prevention.com, RealSelf.com, and BHG.com. With Pretty Local, Krista has appeared on beWell, the morning show from News12 and Cheddar, to share beauty tips and must-try products.
